This project is a 150 acre island development on Windermere Island, a private out-island to the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Originally a holiday getaway for the British Monarchy, the club and surrounding area is being developed into a club membership resort with 50 home sites along the northern end of the island, with each lot having more than 2.5 acres of area and 300 feet of beach frontage. The property belonged to Lee Iacocca in the 1980’s and the private island of Winderemere is the island home of wealthy industrialists and old family money. Golf carts and bicycles are the preferred modes of transportation. The nearest grocery store is in Stonetown about 30 minutes away.
In addition to the home sites, the club has a boutique hotel component, consisting of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom clustered units around a restaurant and pool area. Also planned is a destination spa and pool, with individual treatment rooms directly over Savannah Sound.
40NORTH provided conceptual master planning, concept design, and on-site engineering services for the project, locating and tagging coconuts to be transplanted and staking roadways to be cut through the island scrub to the homesites. This was officially 40NORTH’s first project after being founded in 2005, and company branding workshops with Katie were done at the terrace overlooking the ocean each evening. It has one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere, and in another life our headquarters would be in the map room of the Winderemere Island Club.
